How’s your face? Is it clearing up?

A good read on the Jeremy Lin hype. →
Even though I’m not Chinese, and I’m not the greatest NBA fan, I liked this pseudo-article written by the Asian American studies professor. This isn’t hating on Jeremy Lin’s talent, rather it describes the superficiality of the hype around him.

A Brief Reflection.
When it comes to being critiqued on my dancing, it is something I’m not used to. But today at BBA, in lieu of Schools For Fools (a bboy jam between various UC’s, Cal States, and community colleges) coming up, our team worked on doing three hard rounds against one another, and then each battler was received criticism by the rest of the team. As I received mine, I was pretty surprised by...

Theological Legalism
blakebaggott:
I think many of us grew up in a place where behavioral/moralistic legalism was very predominant. You weren’t considered a Christian unless you didn’t drink beer, didn’t cuss, didn’t have sex, didn’t go to parties, didn’t listen to secular music, and the list goes on and on. And of course, your righteousness was also based on what you did do as well. Unless you went to church, said...

Jesus vs. Religion →
amandacrysta:
A very helpful article about the spoken word video that has been circulating on almost all social networking sites.
A good read on clarifying a few things on the popular “Why I Hate Religion but Love Jesus” video.

I currently have a folder of on-campus job applications waiting to be submitted. This school quarter, I’ll see if I can get a job on campus.
I did like the amount of free time that I had last quarter, being able to be a full-time student that has a lot time for dormmates/other friends, bboying, and even sleep. But every time I’d call my parents and ask them for money, I would feel...

Happy New Year. Even though we don’t necessarily need a new year to make new goals, to those making resolutions, I hope you stick to them throughout the year, and even throughout your lifetime. Myself included.

I like being alone.
I like drinking coffee alone, and reading alone.
I like riding the bus alone, and walking home alone.
It gives me time to think, and set my mind free.
I like eating alone, and listening to music alone.
But when I see a mother with her child;
A girl with her lover;
Or a friend laughing with their best friend;
I realize that even though I like being alone.
I don’t fancy being lonely.

Genuine-ness.
It’s really cool seeing TA’s actually care for their students. I recently got an email from one of my TA’s from last quarter:
Hey everyone,
I hope you’re enjoying your vacation. Thank you all for a good first quarter and for your kind evaluations. Our class did really well on the common final and I’m really proud of you.
I’ll be TAing Math 2E next quarter so...
